Access Bank Rwanda on Friday, March 26, awarded three outstanding small and medium start-up businesses owned by women.

The competition was organized by the bank in partnership with ITC SheTrades Rwanda Project, and the African Development Bank’s Affirmative Finance in Action for Women in Africa (AFAWA).

Avo Health is a business that makes natural avocado cooking oil started by Euphrosine Mugeni Niyidukunda in June 2017 and is based in Huye.

Niyidukunda Mugeni Euphrosyne, UR student, says she has managed to create her own business which is now worthy 20 000 000 Rwf despite starting with 2000 Rwf back in 2017.

Niyidukunda Euphrosyne is a fourth-year student at the University of Rwanda’s College of Business and Economics. She is also the founder, CEO, and owner of AVO Health LTD, a small avocado cooking oil processing plant based in Mbazi sector, Huye district, Southern province.

Euphrosine Niyidukunda Mugeni, a final year female student at University of Rwanda who is pursuing Business Administration, is already in position to pay her bills and create employment every month thanks to her innovation in organically producing edible oil and hair oil from avocado fruits.

The 23-year-old innovator who is contributing toward reducing post-harvest losses by adding value to avocado harvest hails from Mbazi Sector in Huye District where she carries out her business.

A Horticulture Innovation Lab team hosted the first-ever “Rwanda Postharvest Week,” in Kigali recently, with five days of training and conference events culminating in the Postharvest Innovation Competition.

Niyidukunda Mugeni Euphrosine, one of [the] 13 Postharvest Innovation Competition winners, will use award money to purchase processing equipment for her avocado oil extracting company.

Avocados could be the next money-making opportunity in Rwanda following a breakthrough invention by Niyidukunda Mugeni Euphrosine, a university student that has managed to make cooking oil from these abundant fruits.

The student is now scheming on extra plans to produce wine and juice from avocados. She is conducting her activities from Huye district in the Southern Province.
